LEARN TO LIVE, LAUGH - Do a lot in the district of Görlitz!
by Lisa Graen
After half a year of work, the time has come: the third graders in the district can look forward to a primer that makes them want to explore their own homeland. Of course, we at the development company know about the advantages of our district and are now all the more pleased to be able to pass this knowledge on. But from the beginning:
In March of this year, the funds were approved by the Demography Funding Guideline. The aim of the guideline should be to counteract the development of demographic change, which is progressing in our region, with local projects. Since one phenomenon of demographic change is the emigration of young specialists, the idea of starting at an early age was obvious. And what could be better than showing our youngest children the positive sides of our district in third-grade science lessons. The idea of the Heimatfibel was born. The pledge of funds was the starting shot! Grateful to be able to take on such a nice task and with the help of Carolin Thomas, bachelor student at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and Nicole Blana, lecturer in the childhood education course, we got to work.
Little by little we have collected and filtered out information from the fields of culture, economy, tourism and politics, among other things, which facts are really important and which are tangible for third graders. Initiatives and associations from the district were happy to work on the texts and gave positive feedback on the project. With the help of Nicole Blana and Carolin Thomas, the texts were edited and formulated according to the age group. And so that the texts are appropriate for children, we have incorporated many vivid photographs and graphics. The book is brought to life above all by the wonderful pictures from the hidden picture book of priceless land, which was published in the spring of this year.
The primer contains many hands-on tasks. This gives the children the opportunity to acquire new knowledge about their homeland in a playful way. All content is aligned with the current curriculum. Tasks can not only be solved in the booklet, but also encourage you to visit different places in the district. The result is a coherent book that can trigger enthusiasm for the district of Görlitz.
The package, which will reach the county's elementary schools in December, consists of a class set of primers, a teacher's solution booklet and a large map of the county to display in the classroom. All data is also supplied on a USB stick to ensure the sustainability of the project and to be able to project all the topics onto the class digital board if required.
We are excited to see how our primer with the title: "LIVE LEARN LAUGH - do a lot in the district of Görlitz" is received. Maybe we'll get the feedback directly from the elementary school students. One page is designed accordingly. But you have to discover it yourself... ;)
