Actually, I don't really have the space for a text at this point.
I also asked myself whether it was a good idea to take up the topic. But the blog should also allow a little "behind the scenes" view of the ENO. So I would like to leave some thoughts on our latest application here.
In the last week of February I was in the Czech Republic. Time with the family, skiing and recharging were on the agenda. This also includes as little active use of technology as possible, books wanted to be read. The images from a news channel shocked me all the more. Switched on more or less by accident – its message is unbelievable. War in Ukraine?! No way - that can not be. I can no longer describe whether it was emptiness, speechlessness or the feeling of waking up in a bad dream. Even today I just can't find the words.
So back to the ENO. On February 28, I was summoned to an appointment with the District Administrator at short notice. The request: numerous offers of support were reported to the district, many direct aids have already been made available. What is missing is some form of bundling. What is missing is a channeling of those offers. Can the ENO imagine supporting it here?
After a short internal ENO vote, we agreed - if we can help here, we will. Thomas Vogel and Jörg Bergner took the scepter of action in their hands. The creation of "the catalog of offers" is now not only a dominant topic for the two. In addition to the actual application, we also offered to take up offers by telephone. In the meantime with 4 people at the same time. It's unbelievable how willing people are to provide support here. A big thank you to everyone for that.
It only took a few hours from the order itself to going online. The application is constantly updated in the background, actively maintained and can also be viewed by municipalities, for example. Several thousand offers for sleeping places were recorded. Hundreds of support services such as donations in kind or interpreter services could be registered.
Today, March 21, 2022, the nightmare is not over yet. We still see destruction, misery and suffering on a daily basis. More people reach our district every day. Countless helpers in countless countries are trying to help. I don't know how to say thank you - but you have to. Of course, not all processes are ideal, and there are always new questions. But everyone is doing their best. And if our small application can make a small contribution to supporting certain processes, that's also a project that makes me proud.
