A special kind of Christmas present
During the Advent season, many priceless countries are certainly looking for a suitable gift for their loved ones. In our district of Görlitz you can find numerous wonderful products that can enrich the gift table. We have a special recommendation, especially for families:

Monday, 09/12/2022 – 9:00 a.m. Excited and a little excited, I pressed the button to go online with the volunteering portal. The form for submitting an application for the volunteer budget was thus released. Just a few seconds later, "Bing" made it into the volunteer mail account for the first time. The first application has been received. The next ones followed in a matter of seconds. I thought back to March 28 of this year with trepidation. We were flooded with applications. 350 applications in 20 minutes. Then we already had to close the portal because the budget was exhausted. Shortly after 9 a.m. it looked like it could happen again this time. When would the available funds for the fall probably be exhausted?
"The youth must be taken more seriously" - Transformation researcher Franziska Stölzel in conversation
If you look a little at the structural development and the (academic) discussions surrounding the coal phase-out in Lusatia, you can't get past it. Franziska Stölzel is one of the young women who are committed to Lusatia, both professionally and privately. She comes from Weißwasser - and lives there again.
Today is September 2nd, 2022. There it is. Somehow a day like any other, somehow a Friday in the flow of time. Nevertheless, this Friday has a very special meaning for me (and certainly for many others as well). There have been quite a few articles and reviews on the fact itself.
I use the blog today as a little way of my personal thoughts. Today is somehow Bernd Lange's last working day as district administrator of the Görlitz district. Since he's not just a supervisor for me, I'll share the common steps, but also dare a little preview of the next few years 😊
We laugh a lot, sometimes we fight and sometimes we feel stressed. Emotional moments that get under your skin are rather rare with us in the Unbezahlbarland team. However, one topic made our hearts beat faster with happiness, joy and emotion this year.
Anyone who has requested an appointment with a craftsman in the past few months will have noticed that the trade is on the upswing. "I can put you on the waiting list" or even worse: "We'd like to come, but we don't have enough staff at the moment...yes, that's been the case for a long time, but it won't change overnight...".

The last district assembly on June 15, 2022 was also the last of District Administrator Bernd Lange . In a short, but very personal, emotional speech, he said goodbye to this big stage, which is so important for the district, with the words: “You have to inspire people together, listen to them, discuss with them and don't promise anything they can't keep “.
On May 1st the new permanent exhibition of the Granite Mining Museum Koenigshainer Berge opened. In bright sunshine, numerous interested guests came and listened intently, including to Michael Kretschmer, who was personally committed to the museum (we reported).

On May 1st, 2022, the new, modern permanent exhibition of the granite mining museum Königshainer Berge , as we reported in January.
Hello!
Today we are delighted to have a guest contribution from space pioneer and author Arielle Kohlschmidt:
Hello!
I remember my first week at ENO well, almost exactly a year ago. I read and learned about and from the ENO service points, studied the annual report , learned about the projects such as the Sternradfahrt and Schau Rein! , the Insider and much more.
Actually, I don't really have the space for a text at this point.
I also asked myself whether it was a good idea to take up the topic. But the blog should also allow a little "behind the scenes" view of the ENO. So I would like to leave some thoughts on our latest application here.
Hello! is noticeable
that something is happening in the former Totschek department store on Steinstraße in Görlitz Since the end of last year, the department store is called “Kaufhaus der Innovations”. Suddenly the lettering "Grantiro" is emblazoned on the shop windows, and behind them two experts, the enterprising innovation manager Christoph Scholze and Dr.
Johannes Sauerwein everyone who wants to talk about new ideas for the district of Görlitz.
On May 1st, 2022, the new, modern permanent exhibition of the Granite Mining Museum Königshainer Berge will open. In the beginning there were only ideas. And an innocent question. Then the grants came.
"You support so many projects in the region, don't you have some money for us?" - sometimes the biggest changes begin with an innocent question. And that's how it was in the case of the Koenigshainer Berge granite mining museum .
The cross-border European grouping for territorial cooperation with limited liability " German-Polish Geopark Muskau Arch " (EVTZ mbH Geopark Muskau Arch) has been founded!
Clubs, schools and day-care centers often come up with great ideas that can further advance our priceless country. Often, however, their realization is associated with money that is usually not available to the actors. Smaller amounts of support can be requested from the volunteer budget of the district.
Our colleague Maja Daniel-Rublack, head of the tourism service point, is looking forward to Saturday, June 4th, 2022 - because then the "cycling success story", the Sternradfahrt in the district of Görlitz, will celebrate its 20th birthday. Since its premiere in 2002, the Sternradfahrt has grown steadily and now has participants not only from the entire district, but from all of Upper Lusatia, Brandenburg, Poland and the Czech Republic. A total of tens of thousands have cycled over the years, with the highest number of participants in 2018 being around 3,500 people.
They are one of the sweetest temptations of summer in Priceless Land - the sweet cherries. A place in the district of Görlitz is particularly associated with the delicious stone fruit. The municipality of Groß Radisch has a long history of growing and cultivating sweet cherry trees.
Every country needs its heroes. In priceless land, the bright minds who think far into the future for us are definitely part of it. Without them we would really be lost. We are on the move. The brown coal works! But what comes after that?
We don't have diesel-free environmental zones where bumpers line up bumper to bumper and delivery services block bus lanes or bike lanes. For most residents of the priceless country, the self-designed environmental zone begins in their own garden right in front of the door or a few steps around the corner.
“I come from Oybin in the Zittau Mountains and didn't want to study too far away. I had enrolled at the HTWK in Leipzig to start studying science. I

The Olbersdorfer See is in hibernation. A little rest is probably good for him too. Because in summer there is a lot going on here. Especially when the annual O-See Challenge is held.
Craft has golden soil. In the district of Görlitz, there is still a great tradition of craftsmanship with well-founded expertise in the wide field of timber construction.
We've got some really tough guys in Priceless Land. For example, young men who lovingly care for the elderly and chemical freaks who produce one of the most famous dishwashing liquids in Germany.
He is always in a good mood and often has a casual saying on his lips. He exudes optimism and serenity. "It'll be fine." seems to be one of his mottos.
Hello everyone,
The year 2021 is coming to an end and the automatic replies to my emails "I'll be gone then" are increasing. Time for a first little review, of course from the point of view of the ENO MD.
"I don't like the term at all. But the possibilities that this offers are," says Sven Mimus, Managing Director of the development company Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH, ENO for short.
There are many string pullers in Priceless Land. Some bury high-speed broadband cables in the ground, and others consolidate myriad wires into controls for high-tech machines.

It's really strange what's happening in our homeland. This is how a strange love is reported, which has hardly received any attention so far. People say that one day Prince Pückler and his friend the smuggler were traveling in a carriage drawn by deer. He was amazed by what he saw:
In 2019, the name "Unbezahlbarland" first appeared on social media in the Görlitz district. The development company Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH (ENO) developed and launched this new umbrella brand together with the Görlitz agency Machtwort.
"We are really happy about our return and have found so many things here that are really priceless for us," says Stine Weinhold happily.
Anyone who leaves the car and explores the places in our homeland on foot will often be unable to get out of the "Ahh..." and "Ohhh...".
The sun caresses the landscape with its first warm, soft rays. Being able to be there live as a viewer is always something wonderful.
Hello!
We at the ENO like to try new ways, and we think we should too:
A good tradition
It's a good "tradition" that we take a day out of everyday life once a year. Often we invite guests and share the day. Part 1 is a technical discussion on a topic. Different from year to year. Part 2 is getting together - preferably with one or more guests. The conversation on neutral ground. Laughing with colleagues who you might not see every day in everyday life.
Not for everyone
I am fortunate to work for a company where there are very few clear standards. Of course we have a lot of things to consider. But luckily, we also have many different topics on the table. We also have the backing of the committees to try things out.
A GmbH needs structures
And a GmbH in the public sector all the more so. I'll spare you to present them here down to the last detail. But the jungle of our documents, regulations and other legal bases is not insignificant. And it's not just the case with us. But sometimes your head is spinning. Procurement law, aid or de minimis. Personnel laws, tax paragraphs or the Saxon municipal code in its entirety with relevant content. There are also professional associations and building regulations. That's okay, I have a #team and together we've always made a lot possible. Of course, errors have also happened – but if they do, we try to fix them as quickly as possible.
What sets us apart?
Many formats of public relations are aimed at the wonderful landscape. Is that always right?

Hello!
The LEX, the Lausitz start-up competition, was held for the 17th time last week. The history of LEX is a success story: thanks to the commitment of young entrepreneurs, sponsors and network partners, over 1000 jobs have been created and maintained in Lusatia since 2004.
Tradition to bite into
"I don't want to be a big baker. I just want to bake good bread.” Denis Wittig is a passionate baker. He took over the bakery from his father. Constant growth was never important to him. Traditional craftsmanship is the focus of his work. He gradually removed ready-mixes from production and went back to the traditional baking method. Increasing sales have confirmed him in this step. People think it's great and praise his baked goods: "I didn't do much there. It's just a lot of time invested," admits the master baker modestly.
Around August 1st, I feel a bit melancholy about my work. It's the district's birthday, the NOL turned 9 (from 1994 to 2008) and the current one celebrated its 13th. This year, however, there was a special anniversary. Rather quiet, something forgotten and I know that the "jubilarian" will escape with "... oh, Freymann" when he reads this. Nevertheless and precisely because of this - I am writing this small blog post (as an interim conclusion) with great admiration, a lot of gratitude and a little humility.
A song for the priceless country?
Who needs that?
What is that good for?
... and second than you think. Around 1:30 p.m. I postponed my blog topic, which was originally planned for today. Because at that time I read the e-mail from Mrs. Köhler. And this contained a joyful disposition.
I see that by looking at my calendar. It's changing again. Just 2 or 3 months ago I was almost exclusively in virtual rooms. Teams has become the standard, it was my environment. All day. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to work in the ENO. Technically, we were able to do this even before the "home office for everyone". It was even customary to be out of the office for 2 days. I'm grateful for that because many other industries don't have this privilege. They have my respect.
Company visits are one thing. A lot is exciting. The conversations are often very personal. So here in the blog a few lines about a great meeting that Thomas Rublack and I had arranged to meet with the brothers Alexander and Stefan Jakschik at ULT AG in Kittlitz. From the beginning the atmosphere was friendly. An open welcome - already announced on the monitor in the entrance area.
Yesterday I briefly considered not publishing a blog post today. Why? I read the blog about the journey through the #unbezahlbarland ( https://www.15grad-ostblog.de ) and thought we don't want to get on your nerves with too many blog posts a week.
A short story about a long year
a guest contribution by Holger Freymann
A year ago today there was a big change and a new beginning. Tom (Thomas) Rublack, until then authorized signatory and second hand at ENO, changed sides and was thrown in at the deep end of the large, complex administration with so many new tasks. This also meant a new start for me, as he was my new boss with immediate effect. But first things first...
I keep reminding myself of this saying. The prophet in his own country. How do I define these words? Oh well. I am convinced that our region does not have to hide. Sure, it's not all perfect. But from my perspective, there are also quite a number of good stories.
The blog should also reflect on our daily ENO work. Today a small excerpt from the category "what kind of development should we push for here". I am writing about the grounds around the castle in Koenigshain.
An exhibition also includes a film. - I got stuck again. Officially I could say "approval of a film for a project". Every now and then it happens that I then nod off the sequences in fast forward and release the result. That was not the case with this fine film. On the one hand you can see very nice pictures of our region, on the other hand also very interesting statements.
Finally another episode "Have a coffee with..." I was really looking forward to that. The planned date of Ingo and Christian wasn't really clear to me. It was discussed in the project meeting - something is coming. But I didn't need to know more. The rumbling in the stomach was not a bad feeling, but the joy of the next episode.
I'm notoriously messy. Maybe someone else among you knows this. I keep thinking about where I put which document. Paper - even worse. How often do I still find a letter or a folder in my pocket. With the blood pressure rising, print out overview A, sketch B and analysis C shortly before the committees? All I need is in my head, but a printout would be nice... Even in 2021.
I got it for my milestone birthday last year. A copy from exactly 40 years ago. Even my grandfather was meticulously busy reading them, literally studying them, when I was a child. Articles were then neatly cut out and filed according to categories. Even the weather got its place in the perfectly kept diary. Unfortunately, I can't do this depth of study of all sides.
The picture speaks volumes
What an exciting afternoon that was for me. Yesterday at 1 p.m. I wanted to sit at the computer and listen to the live stream of the district council. The technology was ready. Then a call at 12.45 p.m. - I urgently have to go to Görlitz again.
The excitement was great when I received the information a few days ago "We can do volunteer work again in 2021". Very good. (Almost) exactly 2 months ago I referred to the successes of the last 2 years and spoke out in favor of a sequel. Here is the link to the brochure again: https://unbezahlbar.land/broschuere
How do you still put up with me? I can't really explain it to myself either. I mean the team around Ingo, Ariane, Kasia and Christian. Our "creative department", our service point #pricelessland.
From the Rhine to the Neisse
A field report by Sven Erik Backhausen
"The piece of paper that wants to be filled" - I couldn't describe my time in the ENO better. But you will find out immediately what it is all about.
Should I really write about something like this?
I asked Steffi, my wife, this question yesterday. And she encouraged me in this matter. My first appointment today was 8:30 a.m. with the location "District Office Görlitz". Strange feelings crept over me. Somehow strange. This "conversation" could be a bit excited and different than in the last 15 years.
Is it just me?
Forward, always forward - or not?
"After 10 years I'm looking for something new" - these were my words when I was allowed to take over the post of managing director of the ENO in 2005. I've been in this role for a few years now. And it's fun. Diverse, exciting, formative and of course sometimes exhausting. One thing is certain - there is no planability in the ENO. But they also exist - the moments when the pulse can be heard too fast in the ear, the fingers have to hold on to something and the coffee is the wrong drink to calm down.
Hundreds of pictures put a smile on my face
