Support for the vision of the Lausitz Sports Academy
Ice hockey is a tradition in Weißwasser/OL. The former GDR record champion now plays in the second highest league, the DEL 2.
Weißwasseraner Dirk Rohrbach has been connected to the sport and the club since his childhood. He was once a player himself, later a coach, and today he is both managing director of EHC "Lausitzer Füchse" Spielbetriebs GmbH and a visionary. “Up to 180 children train with us in the youth sector. We want to train them to be professionals. In order to have the optimal framework conditions for this, we want to build a sports academy for popular and elite sports in Weißwasser,” reports Dirk Rohrbach. The areas of school, sports, nutrition and medicine are to be networked under one roof. This includes the development of an alternative, international school model, which is potentially to be implemented with the University School of Dresden as a partner. The focus is on ice sports. The cost of the project is 150 million euros. A feasibility study is currently determining how great the chances of implementation are. According to Dirk Rohrbach, the power of the masses is also necessary to achieve the goal: “If thousands of people perceive this academy as a positive added value for the region, then that is also a sign for the decision-makers that it is not just the city and the Ice sports are behind the idea, but that it is also about the future of Lausitz.”
“If the vision becomes reality, our eyes will turn to the east. Because top-class sport creates jobs. Top-class sport ensures notoriety. Top-class sport connects and creates identification,” with these sentences ends the film that Christian Fietze produced from the ENO Service Center Priceless Land for the Lausitz Sports Academy. The ENO is working with the foxes and the city of Weißwasser/OL to implement this idea. Saskia Brosius from the Structural Change Task Force is actively involved in the process. In addition to supporting project development, we also want to convey the vision to the general public. The films, trailers and shorts about the sports academy produced by Christian and our own website are intended to contribute to this.
The Lausitzer Füchse also need your vote for this ambitious project.
