Hello!
On May 1st, 2022, the new, modern permanent exhibition of the granite mining museum Königshainer Berge , as we reported in January.
Next Sunday it will finally be time: after being closed for a year and a half, Königshainer Berg e granite mining museum The brake track and cable crane function models await numerous visitors from near and far together with the paving hall, engine shed and quarry. The "shortcoming" that young generations can no longer be shown the quarry technology live in the Königshainer mountains is now being remedied with the intelligent use of the latest technology. Because stone saws, compressors and drop hammers are "only" silent witnesses today without additional technology - their sheer size and power push the museum buildings to their limits. But thanks to Augmented Reality (AR), a remedy is now being found. With the help of "augmented reality", four large devices can soon be put into operation digitally and make the museum experience or, for example, physics lessons exciting. Spoken explanations help ensure that the individual parts fit together and that air compressors, rock saws and hydraulic fall hammers come to life again.
Those who want to fully immerse themselves in today's work in the quarry will be spoiled for choice in the new permanent exhibition. In future, three quarries in Wiesa/Kamenz, Döbschütz/Melaune and Striegau (Strzegom, Poland) will be available and can be experienced “live” thanks to virtual reality.
Museum director Anja Köhler is delighted with this innovation: "We were very fortunate to encounter a great deal of enthusiasm for our project from the creators, the stone workers themselves. All the companies we approached were enthusiastic and offered us the unique opportunity to visit quarries that were still working – and to talk to the workers." Anja Köhler's suggestions met with the gratitude of the stoneworkers, who were happy about the appreciation and about being able to report on their work.
Because one thing has to be said: even in today's highly technological society, the work in a quarry differs only slightly from that in 1920. Very few people are aware of this when they walk over historic cobblestones in renovated inner cities or admire elaborately manufactured natural stone walls .
And that is also the goal of the Koenigshainer Berge granite mining museum: It wants to be a memorial to all the workers who have worked in the granite industry over the past centuries and paid for it with their health - not only here in eastern Saxony!
The museum director has one more wish: she would like to say a heartfelt thank you: "Thank you to everyone who supported the project from the start or along the way, thank you to our partners from Germany and Poland, and above all to the enthusiasts from the field railway museum Herrenleite from Lohmen for the support in planning the new permanent exhibition, but also in the implementation during the hot phase.Thank you, to the colleagues from the Muzeum Ceramiki w Bolesławcu , to Eva Fielko and Andrew Bowdin for the not always very easy translations Thanks to Mr. Jander and his hard-working and reliable "boys" from Jander Erd- und Tiefbau from Obercunnersdorf , who implemented the wishes for the historically correct appearance of the buildings, foundations and retaining walls with great meticulousness and a lot of understanding and humor. And while they were at it, they also laid rails and directed large equipment to its proper place.
A few days before the reopening, the small field railway locomotive arrives by crane. It is the same model that used to be used in the quarry.
also due to Mr. Mauermann and his colleagues from GMV Dachbau GmbH in Melaune, who sometimes came over at the weekend to do the final touches. Thank you, also to the engineering office Eichler & Heinrich from Görlitz, who didn't always have an easy time with this project, but who did have the best construction advice in the entire district of Görlitz. A very special thank you goes to the project staff at the development company Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH , who put their heart and soul into the administrative implementation of the projects and plunged into the accounting of funds. And also Johanna Busch, who took on the topic of "granite mining" with a dogged determination and wrote all the texts and object labels and then translated them into Polish, deserves heartfelt thanks."
And then Anja Köhler adds with a smile: "In the course of the projects, she built up a special relationship with the large compressed air compressor and various other large devices during day-long cleaning campaigns with the toothbrush. Without her, the projects would never have become what they are today! ".
Finally, Anja Köhler and her committed team would like to cordially invite you to the opening on Sunday, May 1st - and anyone who should not be able to make it on this day has the opportunity to find out everything about work at the most modern level during normal opening hours and technology of granite quarrying in the Koenigshain mountains and beyond!
The team looks forward to seeing you!
Best regards,
your Anja & Jasna
