The priceless country as a guest at the Teachmermania in Dresden

The schools in the district of Görlitz urgently need new teachers.

As part of the Unpayableland image campaign, we are committed to recruiting young teachers. "In order to be able to inspire prospective teachers to live and work in rural areas at an early stage, we decided to start directly at the source," explains Ingo Goschütz, head of the #unbezahlbarland service point. "And this is how the priceless country presented itself at the second Teachermania on the campus of the Faculty of Education at the TU Dresden."

In addition to the district's distinctive event tent, numerous give-aways and information material, the UBL team brought eight teachers to Dresden. With them, the school types elementary school, secondary school, grammar school and vocational school center were represented on site. They should be available to answer any questions the prospective teachers may have in direct conversations. The plan worked. After just a few minutes, the first discussion groups formed. The young people specifically approached the district's teachers in order to benefit from their experiences. In addition to questions about the path to professional life, legal clerkship and getting started in everyday school life, practical tips on how to deal with specific teaching situations were also requested. Our teachers were enthusiastic.   

"Of course we use the day to diligently advertise the priceless advantages of living in rural areas compared to the big city," reports Ingo. “In the numerous discussions, most of the students stated that they did not want to move to the big city later on, but to quieter regions. Some of them had already made a clear decision to work in the district of Görlitz or in Upper Lusatia.” During the Teachmermania, the UBL team encouraged the student teachers to take part in an online survey in which they asked a few questions about the personal decision-making criteria for the type of school and should answer the later place of work. "We want to use the answers to derive impulses for the future direction of the campaign to recruit teachers," says Ingo. All survey participants have the chance to win one of three adventure weekends in the district of Görlitz.  

In the afternoon our District Administrator Dr. Stephan Meyer the Teachermania. The students now had the opportunity to talk to him as well. This could take place very intensively during the "Teacher Talk". Five of our teachers introduced themselves to the students in a workshop and reported on their careers and experiences. dr In this round, Meyer presented the school landscape of the district and the priceless high quality of life. He offered the students present support if they decide to work in the priceless country.  

By participating in the Teachermania in Dresden, the district of Görlitz has set an example. "The way the priceless country was presented, the people to talk to, the extensive information and the high-quality giveaways were repeatedly praised by the students," says Ingo happily. "No other region of the Free State has presented itself so intensely."
