Not for everyone
I am fortunate to work for a company where there are very few clear standards. Of course we have a lot of things to consider. But luckily, we also have many different topics on the table. We also have the backing of the committees to try things out.
Without always knowing in advance what the result will be. We take up many suggestions from clubs, companies or you. Try that. Then sometimes it works, sometimes not. Our way of working is agile, yet demanding. Because of course I can't allow it that we always just try something. The benefit lies with the customer. So there has to be a clear signal here. If we don't see that, a project will be discontinued very quickly. I had to learn that too. "My idea is good" - no, that doesn't matter. If no one is interested in "my idea", the follow-up earns no points.
The project starts
That's not for everyone either. Because when the project starts, there are very often no standardized processes here either. This differs from project to project. Even with recurring projects, not every process in the ENO can be automated. On the contrary. We want constant improvements. However, this must also include project responsibility. This will to constantly make the product / project that little bit more attractive. This has often worked quite well in recent years. The number of employees has also increased as a result. And every team member then has to accept my way of leading the ENO. I just want to encourage a lot of freedom and maximum creativity. I don't want any clearly defined teams. Each project may require different project teams. Ideally, they should find themselves. There are clear project agreements, but very rarely do I make specific project interventions. When and how the project is processed is up to my colleagues themselves.
Where to take, if not steal?
This kind of work takes some getting used to. Luckily we have also been able to bring great people to #TeamENO in recent years. At this point I would like to sing a little song of praise for the cooperation between companies and scientific institutions in the future employee segment. We have been cooperating with the vocational academy in Bautzen and our university in Zittau/Görlitz for many years. Both facilities offer great opportunities to get to know each other. Getting to know students and companies. We recruited the majority of our employees via these two channels. The vocational academy creates the space to get an idea within 3 years. In my opinion, students and companies get a good feeling for each other here. Is the employer the one I want? Does that also apply from the point of view of an employer? We come into contact with young people through the university with work contracts or classic work as part of the bachelor's or master's degree course. Here, too, the weeks of working together on a topic with the team are instructive.
Fortunately, we have not only submitted several offers every year so far, but also found new "ENOised" employees 😊. That doesn't always work, nor does it have to. Nevertheless, there is always a big thank you for the time together.
Here in the picture Fr. Petrich, who moves to the district after studying at the vocational academy - also a nice thing.
