Special Volunteer Award from the Görlitz District 2024 awarded

On December 5, 2024, the International Day of Volunteering, the Görlitz district's special volunteer award was ceremoniously awarded in the hall of the riding arena of the “Wehrkirch” Horka eV riding and driving club.

This year, the ENO #unbezahlbarland service point was again responsible for implementing the volunteer budget in the district and for organizing the award ceremony: “In recent years the event took place in the UnbezahlbarLounge in Görlitz, and for the first time we are now going directly into the district went to a club. We are grateful for the very good cooperation with the “Wehrkirch” Horka eV riding and driving club, which gave us a well-equipped and, above all, warm hall. We are also grateful for Matthias Barth’s passionate greeting,” reports project manager Ingo Goschütz.

The event recognized the immense importance of voluntary work in the Görlitz district. A total of 440 applications were submitted for the volunteer budget, of which 360 were approved. Numerous projects were realized with a total budget of 100,000 euros. A jury selected ten initiatives from these applications, which were particularly highlighted with the Special Volunteer Award 2024. The winning clubs each received prize money of 1,500 euros.

The winners of the special volunteer award 2024 are:

These associations represent the many volunteer people in the Görlitz district. “Especially in these challenging times, social cohesion and voluntary commitment are indispensable pillars of our society. It is people like you who make the Görlitz district so worth living in,” emphasized District Administrator Dr. Stephan Meyer in his speech.

Matthias Barth, board member of the host riding and driving club “Wehrkirch” Horka eV, highlighted the special potential of volunteering in his welcoming speech: “There is tremendous power in volunteering. It shows that the seemingly impossible becomes possible – regardless of the size of a club or project.”

The award ceremony was once again framed by the wonderful guitar sounds of Marc Winkler, who at the end sent the happy winners home with an atmospheric Christmas medley.

The evening in the riding hall of the “Wehrkirch” Horka eV riding and driving club was a successful sign of appreciation and recognition for the diverse and inspiring voluntary projects in the Görlitz district. The award winners and their initiatives are a shining example of the wealth of ideas and dedication that characterizes volunteer work. Thanks also go to the team at the Unbezahlbarland service center for the professional organization and implementation of the event.

Financial support from the Free State of Saxony also made it possible to support volunteers in the Görlitz district in 2024. The 100,000 euros provided come from tax resources that are used based on the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
