A new film about the Görlitz district research location
The Görlitz district is on the move. The change from fossil energy production to a “district of sustainability” has begun.
Strategists with visions and creative makers not only work on viable concepts for the future, they also implement them on site. The scientific know-how for this comes from the district’s “think tanks”. The Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the International University Institute (IHI), the Helmholtz Research Center Casus and two Fraunhofer Gesellschaft locations are available as close partners for the design processes. The establishment of the German Center for Astrophysics in Görlitz and Upper Lusatia will have a significant impact on the district as a research location.
The #unbezahlbarland service point wanted to highlight the growing importance of research and science for the region.
Relevant institutions have already been introduced and linked on the project website. “Even though science stands for numbers, data and facts, we also wanted to promote the district of Görlitz as a research location emotionally,” explains service center manager Ingo Goschütz. “And since pictures often say more than words, we decided on a film.” A live-action film with scenes from the facilities and statements from the makers on site would have involved a lot of effort, both in planning and implementation. And the length of such a film would not have corresponded to the current media consumption behavior of online users. “We therefore decided to abstract and have an animated film produced,” reports Ingo. The Leipzig-based Sons of Motion Pictures GmbH was won as a creative partner. The film addresses the major subject areas of the research institutions in the Görlitz district. It tells the story of a burned-out urban researcher who finds exciting scientific topics and an excellent quality of life in Unaffordable Land. “With the film we want to express in an entertaining way the growing importance of research and science for development in the Görlitz district. Young unaffordable people should recognize the potential for their academic future that can be found in their home country. Maybe we’ll also arouse some scientists’ curiosity about our region,” explains Ingo. All companies and institutions from research and science can use the film in the English and German versions for their own marketing. The film is intended to promote us nationwide via social media channels. And of course both language versions are also available on the UBL website .
