Hello!
Today we have the pleasure of introducing our new colleague Robert Kern from the IT department.
Robert, you are the new IT guy at the ENO – welcome!
Please tell us about your professional career. How did you come to IT?
In 2001 I started my training as a state-certified assistant for business informatics (at the bib International College , which the computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf once founded) and successfully completed it in 2004. After that I worked at Teleperformance on various projects. completed further training to become a Microsoft Certified System Engineer In 2010 we went even further away from home, namely to Augsburg. I worked there for almost 13 years as a system administrator in a system house.
You are a real native of Görlitz and, like so many others, traveled the world when you were young. What drew you back to your home country?
I don't know if you can call it world, but yeah, I've been away for a long time. The reason why I came back home is my family and my own marriage in May 2023.
Our internal running gag is the question: "What does the ENO actually do?" - because we have so many fields of work that it is sometimes not easy for outsiders to assign the many projects that we work on to us at first glance. Be honest: what did you know about and about the ENO before you came to us?
I have to honestly say that unfortunately I didn't know anything about the ENO. I knew that it existed as a development company for the district of Görlitz, but not what it did .
And now, after the first few weeks, how does it feel to be on board?
I think it's great how everyone has accepted me as "the new guy" and I'm very happy that I took the plunge.
Where can you be found when you're not in the ENO or behind another screen - rather by the lake, in the forest or in the mountains? Please tell us your favorite place in Priceless Land .
You can find me in different places. Whether in the dance school, on the motorbike or just hiking in the woods. I don't have a real favorite place. I just think it's beautiful everywhere.
What would you advise young people who are interested in IT but don't dare to do it?
The need for well-trained IT specialists will not only remain high in our district. I can only recommend every young person who is interested in the industry to have the courage and, if necessary, bite through a bit at the beginning. Hardly anyone starts the training and is already a professional hacker, as some might believe, deterring. And if you then realize that after a year it really shouldn't fit at all, there are still so many great apprenticeships, be it in the trades or in other sectors.
Thank you, dear Robert!
Best regards
Jasna & Robert
