The Upper Lusatia

The Upper Lusatia
Seven Oberlausitzers and their view of things.
From the farmer to the geologist to the natural stone construction worker. And of course Hans Klecker - an Oberlausitz original.

An exhibition also includes a film. - I got stuck again. Officially I could say "approval of a film for a project". Every now and then it happens that I then nod off the sequences in fast forward and release the result. That was not the case with this fine film. On the one hand you can see very nice pictures of our region, on the other hand also very interesting statements.

A do-it-yourself exhibition.

In the museum association we tried to break new ground with "Oberlausitz 2060". The exhibition should not be designed, prepared, set up and implemented in its entirety by us. Rather, we wanted to gain fellow campaigners. Our goal was to create the presentation together with our guests and partners. Due to the pandemic, only a few visitors were able to view the result directly. So we had the idea of also taking up the topic in a film. Seven Upper Lusatia residents took the time to share with us their very personal thoughts on the past, present and future of Upper Lusatia.

Granite skull or not? How do the people of Upper Lusatia tick? What characterizes this piece of earth? Where is Upper Lusatia headed?

Our "movie heroes" talk about the big questions: Who were we?
Who are we? "Who will we be?" Their perspectives paint a comprehensive picture. The Oberlausitzer is open, interested, creative and sometimes stubborn. Or as Hans Klecker puts it, an "Upper Lusatia granite skull". The descriptions of our homeland range from the history of the Six Towns League to cultural diversity and traditional handicrafts to the topic of lignite. They are approachable and pragmatic answers. No paraphrases. That's good. Many viewers will certainly find themselves in the statements. And where do we want to be in 2060? Again, I caught myself nodding quietly. The sum of the answers gives me optimism and energy for our common path.

On my own account

In 2018, on behalf of the job center, we asked 6,500 companies in the Görlitz district: "What can we do for you?" At that time there was a concrete answer: "Image advertising for the district as a business location". With a response rate of over 750 companies, we understood this answer as a clear work order for us. Thanks to the support of many, we were able to plan the 2019 campaign and launch it in 2020. The agency Machtwort from Görlitz helped us to find a term that we can use ourselves. A term that is not occupied, that is not already used by various actors as an advertising term (and we might offend with it). We want to be flexible in our way of looking at things. We would like to have the freedom to announce this with a small smile. We managed all this with the #pricelessland. Since 2020 we have been using our #pricelessland to promote our cause. That doesn't mean in any way that I don't see myself as a resident of the district of Görlitz or the border triangle, as a resident of Upper Lusatia or Lusatia. But on the contrary. I like living here – in my homeland. Priceless.
