One measure to overcome the diverse challenges of structural change in Lusatia is the establishment of an international, sustainable education and sports academy in Weißwasser.
Petition for the “Lausitz Sports Academy” presented as a vision for Weißwasser
The vision of this international education and sports school is to advance ice hockey and the Weißwasser region. Torsten Pötzsch , Weißwasser's mayor, was one of the first signatories of the petition , which was started spring 2024 at a game of the “ Lausitzer Füchse The city announced on Thursday that over 10,300 people have now joined the “Füchse” online petition and are in favor of the project. EHC managing director Dirk Rohrbach handed the result over to Mayor Torsten Pötzsch. The petition aims to have the complex opened by 2032, the 100th anniversary of ice sports in Weißwasser.
We as ENO support the project - in developing the concept and also in collecting signatures. Read everything about the pioneering academy !

Why this major project?
Ice sports in Weißwasser are important for the community. In order to continue to make high-class games possible, we need supported talent. For three years, we at ENO have also been working with full commitment on the well-thought-out concept of this international, sustainable education and sports academy. Special thanks go to our innovation manager Saskia Brosius , who herself comes from the northern district, feels a particularly deep connection to her (northern district) home and is also a passionate, active athlete. Dirk Rohrbach, managing director of the EHC, emphasized the need for the academy, as 40 young talents had been lost over the last 12 years due to better conditions elsewhere.
Ambitious - sustainable, energy self-sufficient and full of charisma
In total, the project requires investments of around 150 million euros. This requires broad support and expressions of will from Lusatia. The ambitious goal is to build an international sports academy with an alternative school, two ice rinks, a sports hall, a boarding school, a school building, a hotel and a multi-purpose arena. All buildings should be sustainable and energy self-sufficient.
And - not only the actors in Weißwasser and we as ENO support the academy: Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer is also positioning himself for the project, which will make the region more attractive and create new opportunities for children - including those of the international skilled workers who are still to be settled - and the wider community. and should offer top-class sport.
