Current structural development - things are moving forward in big steps!
Last Wednesday, the 6th Regional Monitoring Committee of the SAS met, which also discussed the structural development of our ENO Task Force
discussed project proposals for structural development in our Görlitz district and the federal government's coal phase-out investments to be distributed.
Overall, the committee voted positively in eleven of the twelve projects (from the Görlitz district and the Bautzen district), one project was rejected for further qualification. The total volume of the eleven confirmed projects amounts to 63.7 million euros (federal funds). The chairwoman of the RBA, Dr. Romy Reinisch also commented with praise for our work: “The quality of all project proposals was very high, regardless of which of our development focuses they ultimately aimed at. Ultimately, the development of Lusatia in the heart of Europe into an attractive and sustainable region is the goal of all of us. Away from lignite and towards modern and future-oriented structures. This requires all of these good community contributions.”

We are pleased about the development projects chosen by the RBA, including in Weißwasser, Jonsdorf, Niesky and Großhennersdorf, because they mark important steps in the context of structural development. The projects will significantly increase the attractiveness of our region for residents, young people and, last but not least, tourists.
In Weißwasser, the construction of the " ZukunftsStation Weißwasser ", a space for extracurricular learning, research and experimentation for children and young people, is planned. For this purpose, a building complex will be built in a sustainable manner. The concept sees an interlinking of the topics of nature conservation, natural sciences, technology, and international Youth work and art. This is done in cooperation with local companies, universities and research institutions. The measure includes the demolition of old GDR buildings, an innovative and sustainable research building, the establishment of various workshops with modern MINT equipment, the design of the outdoor area and creation of overnight accommodations. As a contribution to structural change, this project secures existing jobs and creates new ones - through close integration with local companies. And last but not least, the "ZukunftsStation Weißwasser" is a contribution to securing jobs and skilled workers - among other things to generate prospects for young people to stay.
We are also looking forward to the expansion of the Waldbühne Jonsdorf The contribution to structural change can be seen in the preservation of existing jobs for stage performance, the securing of temporary jobs through the implementation of new formats outside the summer months and in the general increase in (tourist) attractiveness of the region. The federal government has budgeted 9.8 million for this.
The innovation project for the train station in the city of Niesky also plays a crucial role in structural development. The goal is to convert the station building into a mobility center for tourist purposes with overnight accommodation. In the basement of the main building there is space for storage, technology and bicycles for a bicycle rental station. The ground floor will later house tourism information, a public transport customer center and dining options. This creates new jobs and enhances the Nieskys as a tourist destination. Together with Niesky, we are happy about the expected 3.7 million.
In Großhennersdorf, the east wing of the former estate warehouse will become an environmental library and, among other things, will have a modern, multifunctional exhibition and education room. The project not only secures existing jobs and creates new ones, but also increases the region's attractiveness for residents and tourists: through the new cultural and tourist offering and close integration with the local catering and hotel industry.
