Broad support for an ambitious project
Weißwasser, a city with a deep ice hockey tradition, is facing an exciting turning point.
Today we can give a first insight into the results of the feasibility study. It is an ambitious project that aims to combine education and sport in an innovative way. The recently carried out feasibility study, in which Eissport Weißwasser eV - Lausitzer Jungfüchse, the city administration and the development company Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH were involved, examined the project.
Educational concept of the future
At the center of the project is an international school modeled on the Dresden University School. This progressive educational concept has already been well received by local companies and research institutions. The Bruno-Bürgel High School has agreed to gradually implement this innovative approach.
Sports infrastructure with a sustainability focus
The plans provide for a comprehensive expansion of the sports infrastructure. This includes the renovation of the existing ice rink, the construction of a new 2-field hall and a cold hall. Particularly noteworthy is the goal of making these systems 80% energy self-sufficient - an important step towards sustainability and cost efficiency.
Challenges and possible solutions
A planned multi-purpose arena promises new possibilities, but also entails significant operating costs. As a possible alternative solution, the study suggests the construction of a “sports village” around the arena. In addition to sports opportunities, this should also offer medical care, physiotherapy and nutritional advice.
Broad support among the population
The enthusiasm for the project is clearly noticeable among the population. Over 10,000 signatures were collected in an online petition and handed over to Mayor Torsten Pötzsch by Dirk Rohrbach from Lausitzer Füchse Spielbetriebs GmbH. This underlines the broad support for the project.
Outlook and next steps
The INBUS Academy promises to position Weißwasser as an attractive location for employers, bring innovative teaching methods to the region and strengthen the local ice hockey tradition. The next important step is to secure further financial resources to deepen the study and advance the project.
Saskia Brosius, who, as ENO's innovation manager, has accompanied the project from the beginning. “The project has the potential to make the city known far beyond the regional borders and to establish it as a pioneer for the combination of education and sport. It will be exciting to see how this vision will develop and be implemented in the coming years.”
