Thanks to so many! 

Very often one reads about the importance of voluntary work in a region. Also in the district of Görlitz. Be it in public functions, in clubs, in the community or just because. Right - the many players are priceless. On so many levels, in so many areas.  

Nothing ventured nothing gained 

At the end of 2018, I was invited to a consultation at the district office. The Free State of Saxony has promised the district funds for volunteer support in a very direct way. Brain teaser: How can the underlying procedure for distributing funds be organized? - Time for this: 14 days until the next consultation. I love my job - I always think that's good. And for this topic anyway. Said and done. An idea became a rough concept. The focus: "a maximum number of recipients in a maximum number of areas in a minimum of bureaucracy". Seven different categories, a clear homepage and very easy-to-use applications. The ENO was able to evaluate amounts of 200 euros directly, with the 500 euros applications there should be a jury evaluation. And the proof of use? The ENO compared to the district. The applicant with a photo to the ENO. That was the suggestion. From the region, for the region. Those responsible in the district trusted us. The concept was confirmed and we were able to start realizing it. Expectations were high, our ambition high.  

Incomprehensible

The response was better than expected! Thank you to all of you who have also helped to make our idea known. Thanks to the many applicants. 100 applications came in the first hour, 617 in the first 16 days! In total, 527 applications were approved and over 800 contacts were made with volunteers. Can this be repeated? 

I have now received the figures for 2020. And I can happily answer that question with "Yes". We made small changes. There were two calls last year. In total, 598 applications were positively evaluated again. 598 transfers to recipients that make this county more livable! Each in his own way! The principle of short distances and direct communication has proven itself. Thanks to all those who trusted us behind the scenes. Thanks also to my team for the good processing of the many applications. Thank you to all applicants. We stuck to one condition in 2020 - the photo. And despite the current times, these hundreds of photos sometimes help to recharge your batteries.  

What's next? 

At this point a small outlook. There are currently talks as to whether and when it will continue. My request to all political leaders. These funds are very well used funds. We should fight to ensure that in 2021 the funding goes to as many recipients as possible with as many funds as possible. We are ready!
