New at ENO: project manager Kathrin Reuter

New at ENO: project manager Kathrin Reuter.

Dear Kathrin, you have been the new project manager at ENO since July.

Please introduce yourself to the readers!

Hello! My name is Catherine Reuter. Born in Zittau, after a happy childhood in Hainewalde and a longer stay in the west, I now live in Kottmar and have been a project manager at the land development company of the district of Görlitz since July 1st, 2022. Since I had been interested in architecture, designing and redesigning new rooms since my school days, but on the other hand I am also practical and not untalented with my hands, I decided to study civil engineering in Zittau. In recent years I have worked in the areas of construction management, work preparation and accounting in industrial and commercial construction.

Have you ever considered leaving your home country? If so, why didn't you do it after all?

There was definitely a thought. I wanted to spend a year abroad after graduating from high school, and that was when I was studying. I had the opportunity to work in the USA for my internship semester. That was a great time. Basically, I was always open to seeing my professional future outside of Upper Lusatia. I graduated at a time when it was very difficult to find a job in our region, in construction companies or planning offices. That's why I was drawn to North Rhine-Westphalia to start my career as a site manager. We are very grateful for the time, but we did not see our future permanently in the West. Therefore, after a few years, the decision was made to return to Upper Lusatia. After 5 years the time had come and we returned and quickly felt at home again. Professionally everything went well, the grandparents were and are happy about the closeness to the grandchildren and we can cultivate long-standing friendships more intensively again.

How did you come to ENO? Did you already have a clear idea of the activities of the ENO (I ask that with a 😉, because people keep asking "What do you actually do at the ENO")

I knew the ENO from the priceless land calendar that stayed with us for quite a while. But what the ENO does exactly, I could not have described in detail before I started here. I probably would have said the ENO works for the county. I have found the topic of structural change incredibly interesting for many years and since I was open to a professional reorientation, I simply tried it with an application. And it worked.

What exactly do you do at the ENO or the area development company of the district of Görlitz?

As a land development company, we see our tasks in several areas. On the one hand, to advise and support municipalities and companies on funding and location issues. Furthermore, we want to plan, develop and market industrial and commercial sites together with and for the municipalities. On the one hand, this involves the development of new commercial space, but also the expansion and maintenance of existing commercial space. The municipalities of the district have the opportunity to become shareholders of the area development company and thus use our offer directly. You've joined a well-established team. How were the first few weeks for you?

I felt welcome from day one. My first day at work was prepared really well and in detail. The atmosphere is open, friendly and appreciative. In the first few days and weeks I was able to work on a specific project, work out ideas together with the other project managers responsible for structural development and contribute my own ideas.

Where can you be found in our priceless country ? Rather at the lake, in the forest or in the mountains? Or somewhere else entirely – please tell us your favorite place and/or favorite activity!

In good and bad weather, I like to walk in the Zittau Mountains and on our local mountain, the Kottmar. In general, I prefer to be outside and on the move.

Thank you dear Catherine!
