Hello!
Maybe one of you has already received the invitation to the workshop: "NOT USE" or discovered it on social media?
And maybe also a bit surprised: the ENO innovation team and an animal therapist invite you to a clearing in a forest in the north, near Boxberg?
Introducing the host, Lisa Kiessling , her background, and her motivation for inviting us today!
Hi Lisa! You come from here, went to the world to study and are now here again – as a coach and therapist you have your own farm and work actively with people and animals. There you will work in your professions as a teacher, specialist for animal-assisted therapy and interventions, family companion, mentor, horse-assisted coach and as a psychotherapist KJP (iA). Wow!
First of all, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Why did you decide to live in the district of Görlitz after you had already sniffed the air of the big wide world? , many young women want to leave here - but you came back and built something for yourself and other people here...!
Yes I have. And it wasn't always easy! There were times when I wished I was born with a golden spoon in my mouth - but I'm not. My farm - and also the clearing to which I invite you to the workshop - is not a family inheritance. I had to learn quickly: if I want something, then I have to do something. As a Görlitzer and returnee, I can say that it is healthy if you go out into the world when you are young and then consciously come back. I studied and trained as a psychotherapist for children and young people, that was another five years after my studies - a total power time. Then the training provided that I should work for a year in a psychiatric ward - I did that in Großschweidnitz. That was a good approach to come back - my family is still here, but I only wanted to stay for a year. Then, of course, also with the experiences and impressions of the world out there, I realized how beautiful it is here.
How did you decide on your profession? Helping people through therapy with animals, especially horses - that's quite a dream job for young women and it must feel out of reach at first...
(Lisa laughs) In fact, I recently found an old Friends book of mine. At the age of 12 I wrote that I would like to become a riding therapist!
...but from the first wish it was still a long way to your farm in Boxberg/ Zimpel...
My whole life is such that things work out. I was married then and we thought it would be nice to have a farm. And so it turned out that it became this farm. I didn't want any neighbors, a good building fabric, an area that is easy to manage - and that's what I found in the middle of the biosphere reserve. A few years ago I looked at this yard in November. Not a leaf on the trees, everything hung in a gray mist. "No way!" I thought...but with every kilometer that I drove further away, the thoughts came..."the linden tree is great...the houses too...the property...". Then I bought it in 2019. After that I had a bit of a struggle with the administration. At some point I said to the building authority: "If I were a man from Bonn, they wouldn't make it so complicated for me". That's how I felt, they confronted me and didn't make it easy for me!
Can you understand the frustration that drives young women from the region? What do you think needs to change?
I'm having a hard time understanding the frustration. Change can only come from people themselves. I don't understand that people expect change from the outside. I don't believe in "circumstances have to change for me to change". In many places, in my experience, it is made more difficult for the boys than it is. See my anecdote with the building authority. Overall, it would be necessary to trust young people more and to allow their ideas and approaches. Old ways of thinking are dominant, but young people have to be given opportunities and trust.
Your very positive charisma will be remembered for a long time - you really radiate this "doer". What would you recommend to young women who also want to live their dream?
Yes, on the one hand it's about doing, and on the one hand it's about sticking with it. When the vision is clear and the goal is set, you must not be dissuaded. There are always hurdles, no matter in which region and at what point you are. Actually, it's not difficult: if we stop just dwelling on the problems, then we can also follow our plans.
Lisa's beautiful "NOTHING" from above - the clearing where the workshop "USE NOTHING (emptiness)" takes place
Together with the doers of our innovation team, you invite to a workshop in August with the title "NOT BENEFITS". How did it come about and how did you come up with the concept?
The idea developed from a conversation - what can happen if you don't specify anything? There are rules, specifications, structures in everything, including creative workshops. It would be great, I thought, if people could open up, but in a completely free way. When it comes to classic spatial development, there are rarely personal conversations, and when it comes to personal development, everyone has the feeling that it has to go in depth - but that you can't develop any ideas. That's why we thought: How great if we set the space - the "NOTHING" in which everything possible can unfold freely and see what happens. We have pretty great NOTHING here - empty, free, great space and beautiful landscapes. The real luxury!
You offer workshop participants another luxury...
Yes, that is due to the public transport in rural areas...since my car can almost find its way to the Klitten train station by itself, I am happy to pick up all the participants from the train station, because the beautiful nothingness here is unfortunately not good otherwise to reach…
Thanks for the interview, dear Lisa!
For anyone interested, here are the key data on the workshop NOT USE:
Some call it "NOTHING".
We call it "FREE SPACE", and this is the GREAT LUXURY in view of the increasingly narrow and expensive metropolitan areas worldwide.
And we have a lot of this luxury here in the district of Görlitz!
In the workshop "USE NOTHING (emptiness)" we want to consider, think through and design with you the most diverse possible uses and development opportunities. With interactive methods, this day should/can definitely bring new ideas for our homeland - be there!
