Important infrastructure investments
On March 17, the Zweckverband Flugplatz Rothenburg/Görlitz GmbH received the notification of grant for a subsidy of 200,000 euros for infrastructure measures. These are funds from the assets of the parties and mass organizations in the former GDR.
The so-called PMO funds are earmarked for investment and investment-promoting measures by the public sector and non-governmental organizations for economic, social and cultural purposes. At the Rothenburg/OL airfield, there are plans to repair the hangar building and the roof areas of the outbuildings and to replace the electrical systems. Gate systems must be repaired or rebuilt. The runway joints need to be repaired. The total costs of these measures amount to approx. 230,000 euros. "We were very happy about the grant notification," reports Managing Director Uwe Garack. "The repair work is a necessary piece of the puzzle in order to be able to present a positive development of the Rothenburg/OL airfield." Depending on the availability of the executing companies, the work should start this year and be completed by the end of 2024. The now possible preservation of the existing infrastructure is the basis for maintaining the current operation but also for the implementation of future projects. “Our goal is to attract aviation-related companies to the airport, including companies from the recycling sector. To this end, we are holding talks with various interested parties,” says Uwe Garack.
This measure is co-financed by funds from the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament
