Hello Emilia , you grew up in Brandenburg and did your bachelor's degree in Bremen in the international degree program Applied Leisure Science . This was followed by your master's degree at the HSZG , here in Görlitz, in the subject of international tourism management . Please explain to us how you came to the HSZG.
During my internship in Berlin as part of my bachelor's degree, I realized that I wanted to deepen my studies. I researched suitable master's degree programs. The Bremen University of gave me a list of recommendations for further study programs and universities - including the HSZG. Since my friend did his bachelor's degree in Görlitz, the city was no stranger to me and I didn't wait long to make my decision and move.
What did your first days here look like - did you something as beautiful as Priceless Land ?
In the first few days I was the beautiful old town of Görlitz - so much history and so many cafés that invite you to linger. The residents seemed a bit distant to me at first. I now find Görlitz to be a place where everyone treats me honestly. I also enjoy being close to the border triangle and enjoy spending time in nature, for example in the Zittau Mountains . The Priceless Land lives up to its name! There is still a lot to discover.
And when did the moment come when you first thought: “I can imagine a life here after my studies”?
During my master's degree in recent years, I have learned about Görlitz district I have lived in many cities (including abroad), but nowhere have I had such a feeling of arrival as in Görlitz.
You completed a semester abroad and a practical semester as part of your bachelor's degree. Where was that - and what was your main focus?
I spent my bachelor's semester abroad in Mauritius - a unique experience for which I am very grateful. That was also one of the reasons why I went abroad to Bali . While abroad I was able to analyze the dependence of destinations on the tourism sector. I completed my internship at Messe Berlin in the “ YOU Summer Festival - Europe’s largest youth event” . It was there that my passion for project management was awakened.
Internationally experienced and, after time in Mauritius and Bali, extremely happy in the priceless land: Emilia Grass
How did you come to ENO?
“ Priceless land - who calls themselves that?” I thought as I leafed through the INSIDER atlas . The title caught my attention. Further research led me to ENO . I recognized my motives in the mission and tasks of the ENO. I didn't hesitate and applied on my own initiative. It has always been my desire to give something back to the region and to become active here.
What will be the focus of your work now?
Structural change instead of structural break ! Shaping the time after the coal phase-out successfully together.
I support the municipal team of the Structural Change Task Force as a project manager. I look forward to exchanging ideas with the municipalities and hearing their project ideas. I really enjoy living here and would like to help shape the development of the region and advance the Görlitz district.
Where can you meet in your free time in the Unzahlbarland - in the mountains, in one of the many beautiful cafés in Görlitz or at one of the numerous cultural offerings here?
I spend my free time in different ways. Sometimes sporty - active during handball training or in the Neißebad with the water polo players, whom I support in the jury. Sometimes culturally - with a play at the GHT Play at the GHT or at the Lausitz Festival . To balance things out, I like to stroll through the old town in search of the next ice cream. Otherwise you can also meet me at Berzi or in the Zittau Mountains.
Thank you very much, dear Emilia !
