Heike Schleussner and Per Wiesner: traveling across borders with full energy
9th Energy Congress “Energy transition to phase out the crisis” of the Lower Silesian Institute for Energy Studies – DISE Energy took place in Wrocław The congress offered actors from politics and business a platform to discuss the energy transition and look for common solutions. The conference participants received an insight into the Polish energy and environmental technology industry as well as the opportunity to make interesting contacts with relevant industry representatives, not only from Poland.
“It was an exciting conference with such high-caliber participants,” said our task force team leader Heike Schleussner happily the week after the DISE Energy Conference. Together with ENO project manager Per Wiesner, she was a guest at this important energy conference. And she was invited on stage as one of the “high-profile” panelists.
The 9th Energy Congress was informative and insightful for our task force structural development experts. “It was interesting for us to see how different topics can be viewed - and how you can inspire each other bilaterally with new perspectives,” reports Heike.
At the congress, numerous experts discussed, for example, overcoming the energy crisis and accelerating the energy transition, and how we could join forces to produce significantly climate-neutral energy by 2030. What was particularly exciting was that people wanted to exchange ideas intensively about new and concrete ways of generating energy, although as of today Poland wants to stick to brown coal mining 2049 ) than Germany ( 2038 “Nevertheless, we all worked at a high level and with enthusiasm on the sustainable design of the energy supply of the future,” emphasize Heike and Per.
“Everything around the energy sector was actually discussed,” explains Per, “from the 'development of the European electricity market up to 2030 and a vision for an integrated EU electricity system with a view to 2050' to 'new electricity market design and how access to it affordable and competitive energy for Europeans," he explains. And of course - numerous exciting food for thought, also for the Görlitz district as a traditional energy region, result from such large, complex and internationally viewed topic clusters. In addition to the diverse and exciting input on a binational and European level, Heike's expertise was also in demand: she represented us as the development company of the Görlitz district on the well-attended panel, which took place under the title “German-Polish Energy and Climate Forum”. Heike reported on the panel about ENO's overall energy concept for the Görlitz district and explained the potential in cooperation with Poland. She particularly discussed approaches to hydrogen - especially since it can be transported much more easily than electricity.
Many experts on the podium (from left): Dr. Nils Geißler, Hubert Papaj, Lena Möller, Heike Schleussner, Christopher Frey, Sacha Caron, Krysztof Kolanowski, Maciej Satora
Initially it was about the strategic goals of Polish and German large-scale and local electricity generation. For example, the hydrogen strategies of Poland and Germany were presented as a response to the ambitious goals of decarbonization of the European economies . Heike and Per were able to give important and well-respected input there. Then we started discussing Polish and German experiences in the area of energy transition and the potential of Polish-German cooperation in the process of energy transition using the example of Lower Silesia and Saxony (areas: renewable energies, hydrogen and electromobility). Among others on the podium were Sacha Caron, sales manager and authorized representative of Stadtwerke Görlitz AG Interreg Poland-Saxony cooperation program and Christian Maaß, head of the heat, hydrogen and efficiency department from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy . Nils Geißler PhD, Ministerial Director in the Ministry of Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture of the Free State of Saxony discussed with, for example, Hubert Papaj, the President of the Agency for Regional Development in the Giant Mountains KARR SA and many other experts, making for a fast-paced and extremely informative international exchange literally captivated the audience. A complete success!
Heike and Per also personally sum up that DISE Energy was a complete success - in all areas: knowledge gain, exchange, networking - a conference couldn't be better! You are planning to take part in the 10th Energy Congress again next year for ENO.
Best regards!
