Invitation to the Discovery Day in the Görlitz town hall

A warm invitation to a special cultural experience: The Görlitzer Stadthalle will open its doors for the last time next Sunday before it is closed for extensive renovation.
This special day, organized by the Görlitzer Kulturservicegesellschaft and the Stadthallenstiftung , marks a farewell and at the same time a new beginning for this iconic building, which will open up " new development opportunities for science, business, culture and tourism ". The mayor of Görlitz, Octavian Ursu, explains: “With the renovation of the Görlitz town hall, our region will receive a high-quality event venue and a modern conference center. This will further improve the cultural and social quality of life in our border region. In addition, a place for international encounters is being created in the heart of the European city of Görlitz/Zgorzelec.”
The Görlitz town hall, which has been closed since the end of 2004 due to its major need for renovation, is facing comprehensive modernization . It was not until June 2024 that the city council made the final decision for the renovation, a significant step that paves the way for future use as a modern congress and event venue. Construction work is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with reopening planned for the end of 2028.

Before the renovation work begins, the Görlitzer Stadthalle invites you to a “discovery day” on Sunday, August 11th, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., which will allow visitors to experience the building again. In exclusive tours, visitors can look behind the scenes and discover areas that are normally inaccessible. This is a unique opportunity to explore the hidden corners, the great hall and the historic foyers. (By the way, you can still do this virtually here on the interactive tour , even when renovations are taking place.)
In addition to the tours at 2:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., there is comprehensive information about the planned renovation and future use of the hall. On this day, the large hall once again becomes a cultural center when church music director Reinhard Seeliger makes Sauer organ This organ, which will be partially dismantled and stored during the construction work, is a piece of living history and is reminiscent of the musical tradition of the town hall.
The musical performances on this day are reminiscent of the beginnings of the town hall, which opened in 1910 as a concert hall for the Silesian Music Festivals. In addition to organ music, the European Choir Academy take visitors back in time, while the youth wind orchestra from the Johann Adam Hiller Music School will spread a festive atmosphere with its performances in front of the hall.
Physical well-being is also taken care of: the large hall is transformed into a mini Coolinaria in an Art Nouveau ambience, where wine, freshly roasted coffee and a “flying beer garden” await visitors. Outside on the Neisse side, guests can relax with water, lemonade, beer and bratwurst, while there are attractions for children such as the balloon art of “Zauberkatrin” and a treasure hunt in the historic hall.
Admission is free, but places on the tours are limited. Participation can be secured by picking up a ticket in advance from Görlitz Information/Tourist Service, Obermarkt 32 .
The very last chance to visit the town hall is on Monday evening (August 12th) between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.: An electoral forum for the state elections in constituency 58 place in the Small Hall. Admission is free.
