Is it just me?
Interviews per clicks are daily in my mailbox. Lately I've been conducting hour-long video conferences and answering questions. Of course, at the beginning there is always the obligatory round of introductions and a detailed outline of the project content. It's kind of my job too. It's just that organizations that don't know the region at all do interviews with me. Student work from Munich, Hanover, Nuremberg or Berlin. Based on the questions, I notice very quickly - standard questions to underpin a project. The interest in the region is often due to possible funding programs.
External expertise is always good. Whether in companies, research institutions or administrations. A look "outside the box" or "into the priceless land" can't hurt. You always learn something about it. And very important: We look forward to every inquiry, every interest in our region and every activity to further develop the district here with concrete projects. The signal should go out from us "nice that you're here!"
However, the question I ask myself is: "Are we just suitable data suppliers for projects with nice terms like transformation or structural change?" The feeling is strengthened. Institutions make theoretical project proposals and are then awarded the contract. Only then is an appointment made in the region.
My suggestion: the scepter of action must lie with us. We have to make sure that we use the instruments that are available. Wherever we need external help, we have to act - not always just react. From my perspective, many initiatives are aimed at this. Develop your own ideas, discuss them and proclaim the motto "from the region, for the region" with self-confidence. And together we should then transport the good stories back to Munich, Hanover, Nuremberg and Berlin.
