The craft is unattractive? We do NOT believe that!
A few months ago , the municipality of Kodersdorf came up with the idea of launching a timber construction initiative in Lusatia, since, among other things, a central authority is already based in the municipality. The municipality was significantly involved in the development in the first rounds and was always a welcoming place. In order to think about the project on a district-wide basis, department head Thomas Rublack was called in, who quickly forwarded the request to the ENO. Since then, the ENO has been on the road on behalf of the district of Görlitz to support the developments.
For today's blog post, project managers Heike Schleussner and Annabell Krause their exciting appointment at the Briesowsky joinery .
The research and networking led us to the Briesowsky joinery in Löbau. Mrs. Briesowsky-Graf, the managing director of the company and district master craftswoman, led us through the halls of the joinery, core business: window production .
“What actually happens to the waste from planing and the shavings that accumulate here?” we wanted to know. "Unfortunately no recycling and no value chain so far", but the answer of the managing director - "it is a good and further topic for a student!" clearly shows the will for constant innovation.
We continued through the warehouse and passed a shelled window.
shot at? Yes, the joinery was recently certified for "bulletproof window frames" - also an achievement that was achieved through a student project. It shows that even a supposedly fully developed product - a perfectly finished, optimized and tried-and-tested window - has not yet reached the end of its development if you look at it from a different perspective. Impressive!
In the meantime, Mrs. Briesowsky-Graf's son Andreas came to us. He led us into the backyard of the carpentry shop - and our jaws dropped. "Wow!" we marveled. In the backyard of the joinery there are two small tiny wooden houses on stilts - a project that Andreas has been pursuing since his apprenticeship.
After almost 7 years of think tank, design, calculation, planning and prototype construction, the first small series is finally here. A little self-realization that was always supported by the family. Sustainability, flexible and healthy living - these are the trends of the future and they must be taken up. "To do this, you have to take a risk and invest in ideas," the managing director explained to us. The attitude of the entrepreneur and her openness to innovation make the Briesowsky joinery an attractive and forward-looking company that hardly has to worry about recruiting skilled workers and company succession .
After our tour, we got down to our actual topic: How can we strengthen the handicraft and make the attractiveness of handicraft professions visible? (True to the motto of our mission "Together we are STRONG !" ). There it is again, the keyword "timber construction initiative"... We philosophize and consider: a common center with various trades that take up the local handicraft tradition - from industrial tourism to the founding of an innovation forge to educational projects, competitions and exhibitions...
We want to stick to the vision, develop it further and are excited to see where this common path will lead us in the future. Our conclusion after the day: the craft is anything but unattractive - there are not only , but especially for interested young people numerous opportunities for self-realization!
If you work in a company in the district of Görlitz (or run it, or just know one) that we should present here, or are interested in exchanging ideas with the timber construction initiative, we would be happy to hear from you
Best regards
your Heike, Annabell and Jasna
