RUBIN alliance "EnviroPLast" initiated: Lusatia makes the future

The Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer gave his support to the alliance as an important development for the region.

Bioeconomic value creation

As you regular readers know, the members of our TaskForce Structural Development pretty good at networking meetings and forging alliances in a short space of time.

Our team leader Heike Schleussner, together with the Görlitz innovation manager Christoph Scholze, now laid an important foundation stone for such a strong new alliance with more than 25 players in Lusatia: the RUBIN alliance " EnviroPlast ".

The name is a little awkward and needs some explanation: The "RUBIN" funding program improves the strategic cooperation between companies and with universities and research institutes. In this way, regional entrepreneurial alliances should develop innovations with high application potential - as a development company in a region of structural change, we naturally find that good and are happy to be part of it! "EnviroPlast" will be the sustainable material of the future in and from Upper Lusatia. Biogenic residues from agriculture and forestry are used to create new materials for the vehicle and construction industry with regional added value. With the alliance and the HSZG ( Prof. Sebastian Scholz ) at the forefront, "Residue preparation & processing" and "Plastics processing & component production" from bio-based regional residues are initiated.

In short - for one waste, for the other worth 12 million euros! Because: The "EnviroPlast" alliance was able to assert itself against 48 applicants in the third RUBIN funding round and qualify directly for the implementation phase as a sketch that is particularly worthy of funding. The partners involved have until March 31, 2023 to work out the necessary concepts and funding applications so that the implementation of the "EnviroPlast" project can start as planned on November 1, 2023. The RUBIN alliance "EnviroPlast" will then have up to €12 million in funding available for this purpose.

Heike is justifiably proud: "Christoph and I's first flux idea has now become a tangible funded project that will bring a lot of money to Lusatia! Of course, the idea could only be brought to life because we work with the Zittau University of Applied Sciences / Görlitz , LaNDER3 , the Fraunhofer IWU , SKS structural change Lausitz and many open and innovative companies such as the consortium leader Kluge GmbH already had a strong network and great technical groundwork," she explains in her motivated and motivating way.

After the kick-off of the RUBIN "EnviroPlast" alliance, the requirements and applications for a regional value chain of the Bioeconomy defined in Lusatia. And then go into implementation.

The alliance will make an important contribution to the production and use of sustainable, technical plastic parts from biogenic residues, especially for the vehicle and construction industries. The interdisciplinary consortium of 25 funded and associated partners from business and science, primarily from Lusatia in Saxony, covers the entire spectrum of bioeconomic value creation from harvest to application and recycling.

We are happy about these first steps towards sustainable, future-oriented technologies from our Lausitz!

Best regards

Yours Heike & Jasna

Background:

With around 100 plastics processing companies, this industry is very well represented in the Saxon Lausitz. Most companies process petrochemical plastics to manufacture components and systems for the automotive industry - especially for motor vehicles, but also rail vehicles, aircraft, ships and for construction. In addition, the region also has numerous future-oriented agricultural and forestry operations, so that the supply of biogenic residues is guaranteed. A number of OEMs are also involved in the project as associated partners, so that the research results from the project can be applied as quickly as possible.
