Hello!
Today we report on the 4th Lausitz Café, to which our innovation team invited in the UBL lounge last Tuesday.
After Wilhelmine had given an overview of the topic "living environment", the around 30 visitors spread out at the tables to the various hosts in order to take a closer look at individual sections of this broad topic . How do we want to live in our environment - and in what kind of environment, those were the driving questions.
Table host Ralf Iwan discussed the subject of "sport and exercise" intensively. Everyone at the table should say what is on their mind on the subject. So we noticed again and again that the range of sports offered in a region , even here in the priceless country , stands and falls with the volunteers. Of course, it's great that so many people do voluntary work in their free time! Together we thought about what could be done to make volunteering even more attractive.
The suggestion to be able to do voluntary work during working hours was accepted unanimously and will now be passed on and examined. Because: the better the support of the volunteers, the more diversity in sport can be expanded. And for more sports you need more sports facilities... So we came up with various ideas to make the sports offer even more attractive. One could, for example, open up university sports for non-students and offer clubs or sports groups the opportunity to play in unused school gyms, for example. With modern door locking systems, this offer would even be conceivable without staff. Many participants missed low-threshold, free or low-cost offers in their places of residence. They would like to do something together for their fitness - maybe the offers in the district should be bundled in one app? The ideas also bubbled up at the other discussion tables.
The next table dealt with the issue of “accessibility”, of course also with different participants: “What would happen if you were dependent on a wheelchair overnight after an accident?” was the question that should be asked. This is how we came to identify all kinds of challenges in this area as well - very few people who were not mobility-impaired realized how much they depended on the support of others in order to master their everyday lives. "These mind games definitely help to put yourself in the shoes of others and their needs," explained one participant who herself had to change jobs due to a temporary disability we also found that more than once.
At another table, the participants engaged in lively discussions on the topic of the "school model" and also on generational change in local politics - both major and exciting topics on which almost everyone had something to say. In summary, one can perhaps say that we were able to collect a lot of great suggestions in the school area, and in the area of local politics maybe even motivate one or the other to drop in at a municipal council meeting - but above all, we will continue to do so in the Lausitz Café in the future to stay active. While you can already look forward to the next one on October 10th on the subject of mobility , we are still evaluating it: we are happy about the input in this lively and well-received citizen participation format, we are starting the evaluation and will keep you informed about it at this point up to date!
The next Lausitz Cafés will take place on October 10th, 2023 and on December 12th. on the subject of culture and tourism . It's best to register now!
Maybe see you there?
Best regards!
