Hello!
There was a lot going on in the Görlitz district last week - but also in our neighbors, the Bautzen district. The Bautzen business community and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce invited people to the New Year's reception in the wonderful Schönbach cultural factory.
Monday
After a rousing and optimistic speech by the Prime Minister - despite or because of - the challenging economic situation, in which he assured the economy throughout Saxony of his full support, Michael Kretschmer began intensive individual discussions. The head of the economic department of the Görlitz district, Thomas Rublack, who was present was an exciting conversation partner for the MP.

Tuesday
On Tuesday, a long-awaited meeting took place in the fireplace room of the district office. ENO handed over the overall energy concept for the Görlitz district, which it developed together with many strong consortium partners, to District Administrator Dr. Stephen Meyer. He highlighted the importance of this groundbreaking concept and emphasized the district's will to continue to remain an energy region - also with regard to renewable energies. After the impressive presentation by the expert Dr. Ella Middlehoff Lisa Bergmann the project manager responsible for the ENO project , ENO managing director Sven Mimus personally distributed the document to those present.
District Administrator Dr. Stephan Meyer explained: "The main goal of developing the concept is to develop forward-looking recommendations for developments in electricity grid expansion, the integration of renewable energies, heat supply and alternative solutions such as hydrogen use and production. These recommendations will enable us to be future-proof as a district and show ways in which we can support the regional economy."

Despite the good path already taken in the area of renewable energies, which includes the expansion of wind power and PV systems as well as the repowering of old systems in almost all communities in the district, the district is facing challenges. The planning and implementation depend on the existing network conditions, which often means that long distances have to be covered to the next feed-in point or feed-in is not possible at all due to overload. However, the use of renewable energy sources is essential to keeping the district competitive in the long term.
At the same time, the district strives to create added value for the municipalities. According to Section 6 EEG, cities and municipalities in the district can generate up to 6 million euros in annual income from known renewable energy projects alone. There are also funding opportunities and compensation payments. Last but not least, citizens benefit from a secure supply of electricity, heat and energy.
District Administrator Dr. Stephan Meyer concluded: “I hope that the overall energy concept lays an important foundation and can bring about positive changes for our district. A forward-looking energy policy and sustainable value creation mean quality of life for current and future generations. That is our common goal. Thanks go to the representatives of Fraunhofer IEG, BBH Consulting and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for preparing the study. The energy transition is a joint task that we can only tackle together and for which we need strong partners.”

Wednesday
On Wednesday, the ENO week continued turbulently: the ENO project managers Lisa Bergmann and Steffi Dreier invited people to the 4th working group for the development of sustainable commercial areas, and over 20 interested participants came for three exciting hours of knowledge transfer, exchange and networking the Unbezahlbarland Lounge in Görlitz. The editor of the Neue Lausitz Briefing, editor-in-chief Christine Keilholz , also thought it was an important appointment and came especially from Cottbus.

Thursday
On Thursday things continued in the UBL lounge - with the ENO project and innovation managers Saskia Brosius , Wilhelmine Buscha , Clara Hartung and Emilia Grass at the kick-off for the 2nd Innovation Challenge Lausitz (ICL) , which, unlike the... First ICL, not taking place on a weekend, but on several dates. Axel Krüger gave a motivating and energizing speech - "out of love for his homeland and the social community". He emphasized how important social commitment is for personal happiness and also for personal energy levels. Then it started in medias res: The participants (“challenge takers”) were able to choose the ones that were most exciting to them from three challenging challenges. Now, within several weeks, the more than a dozen challenge participants are working on solutions using modern design thinking methods to the questions: “How can the youth welfare office succeed in getting more couples to take in foster children” and also to the question of how the Upper Lusatian District sports association can manage to get more children and young people interested in club sports again. After exciting presentations and background discussions, we got down to business - the creativity of the participants was teased out...
